New Members

In Illinois, our newest commissioner is James W. Dodge. Mr. Dodge is an attorney with the Office of the Illinois Senate President in Springfield, and replaces Richard Edwards.

CORRECTION: In Wisconsin, Rich Zipperer, a state senator from Pewaukee and new commissioner, replaces Joanne Huelsman, who is a Life Member.

Member News

Georgia Commissioner Paul M. Kurtz was recently presented with the Athens Justice Project’s Milner S. Ball Social Justice Award. Paul was honored for his outstanding and continued support of the Athens Justice Project, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of crime and poverty, as well as for his tireless work on behalf of indigent criminal defense in Georgia, on reform of family law nationally, and for countless community organizations and causes. Congratulations Paul!

Texas Commissioner Marilyn Phelan recently received the ABA Section of Business Law Committee on Nonprofit Organizations 2011 Outstanding Academic Award. Marilyn received the award in recognition of her outstanding contributions and distinguished academic achievements in the field of Nonprofit Law. Congratulations Marilyn!

Update from CSG

The Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act was approved by the Council of State Governments (CSG) as “Suggested State Legislation” at the recent annual meeting of the CSG in Bellevue, Washington. The Uniform Partition of Heirs Property Act, approved in 2010, is a new act which helps to protect the interests and needs of vulnerable landowners. It was enacted this year in Nevada.



Former Louisiana Commissioner Kerry Joseph Triche recently passed away at the age of 56 after a lengthy battle with lymphoma. Kerry, a member of the ULC from 2001 until 2010, was an attorney with the Louisiana State Law Institute in Baton Rouge since his graduation from LSU Paul Hebert Law Center in 1980. Kerry is survived by his wife of 30 years Claudia Decker, his sons Joseph Triche and Andre Triche, his daughter Gillian Triche, his parents, and three brothers. Our sincere condolences go out to Kerry’s family.
